Pa. House Likely to Vote on Budget Bill This Month
March 5, 2010
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives is preparing to hold a vote on the state budget bill and related legislation by the end of March.
On Monday, March 8, the House Appropriations Committee will begin the process by advancing a bill containing Governor Ed Rendell's proposed 2010-11 state budget. Lawmakers will then have a week to file amendments to the bill, which will be due by Monday, March 15. PBPC will monitor progress on the budget bill and post updates on our web site.
It is important that lawmakers enact a fiscally responsible budget that protects working families and addresses major fiscal challenges facing Pennsylvania. Lawmakers resolved last year's budget impasse by cutting hundreds of millions of dollars for job training, community colleges, environmental protection, libraries, and services for children and vulnerable adults.
Now we need to take a more balanced approach that finds efficiencies and raises new revenue. Failing to do that will hurt Pennsylvania families and our economy and set us up for future deficits that will force billions in cuts to health care, education and other essential services.
