A Closer Look at Four Revenue Measures Under Consideration in Legislature

May 7, 2010

In his 2010-11 budget plan, Governor Ed Rendell proposed new revenue measures to help address the significant future fiscal challenges facing the Commonwealth.

The Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center has produced fact sheets on four of those revenue measures. Each proposal would not only raise needed revenue for health care, education, public safety and other essential services, but also reform the tax code by closing loopholes and ending special interest tax breaks.

It is important for lawmakers to take a balanced approach to the budget crisis - one that includes revenue measures, as well as savings and efficiencies - so that the Commonwealth can continue to invest in Pennsylvania's economy, its young people and its future during this prolonged recession. These revenue measures provide a path toward achieving that goal.
